Poor Albizzler's Almanac: A Guide to Gaming Cheap

So you like to game. Or maybe you like to drink, I can think of no other possible reasons that you might have found this website and are reading this post. I happen to like to do both of these things, sometimes at the same time (read: mostly at the same time).  Unfortunately both of these activities cost money, something which I find myself routinely lacking. Beer has skyrocketed in price following the hops crop failures of the past couple of years. Apparently, videogames also use large amounts of hops in their production as their prices have also gone up some in recent years, causality is causation right?

What to do then, with no videogames or beer and little money to procure these daily necessities? Woe is me… or is me?

The Fall of the Shooter

Well it’s here… Big Name Shooters Vol. 3.  Yes, this fall will see the release of Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3 and Modern Warfare 3 (Call of Duty…. The new one),  just in case you hadn’t had enough of the trilogies with Resistance 3 and Killzone 3. Microsoft Gaming Studios obviously jumped the gun a couple of years ago with their Halo 3 release… oh well, I’m sure they figured they could just patch it. The release of these multiplayer monsters means it’s time to disable the wireless router, plug the modem right into the console, call in sick to work with mono and tell your significant other that you need some alone time to ‘discover yourself’.

NHL 12 - Hockey Ultimate Team

As one of the more rapidly expanding game modes, the Ultimate Team has seen success on FIFA and Madden. The continuation of that in the NHL series, has been nothing but a hit. Below are some of the updates from this year's HUT, as well as a few bugs along the way.

Legends

The introduction of Legends into HUT has gotten somewhat of mixed reaction. Last year, it was all about snagging the Ovie's and Crosby's and now it's all about landing one of those 9 legends. You can find all 9 of them here. It is a nice addition. However, say you have a Gretzky card when he is on Edmonton. Well, since he played for both the LA Kings and NY Rangers, there are those versions of him floating around too. This takes away from the rare aspect of the Legends and doesn't make them as exciting to get, knowing that there are plenty of other kinds out there.
