There has been a lot of chatter about the top speed and acceleration attributes for your Online Be A Pro NHL 10 player. I have been every player imaginable, even grinder and tough guy, and play with the attributes of certain player builds all the time. I have come to see a few conclusions so far with most of the builds designed for speed.
In NHL 10, the first thing you must realize is that its not just the speed attribute that makes you go "faster". From what I have tested, it takes a combination of Speed, Acceleration, and Agility. All of these categories need attention since they help your player in different aspects of being fast. Lets start of the with the attribute Speed.
Speed only affects your top-end skating speed. So if you can imagine going strait north to south or like the highest mile/hour (kilometers/hour for our Canadian friends), that would be what this attribute is affecting. In most builds I use, the max I go on speed is 92 as anything more than that seems to not do a thing. Even if you disagree that going to 94 or 95 would make you faster, you must realize how much of the time you are on the digital ice that you are going strait forward. If you answered most of the time, I think maybe you end up on your ass from hip checks a lot and the goalie doesn't have to worry about you turning. Good luck with that especially to get to 94-95 speed it would eat up a lot of your points that could help you more.
Acceleration is a attribute you have to build up for any luck in the EASHL. Acceleration affects how fast you can get moving to your top speed from a standing start. To compare this to a car, imagine its 0-60 time. You can build a dump truck that can go 200mph, but if it takes an hour to get to that speed its not that great in confined spaces like a hockey rink. Hockey is all about stopping and starting, and having that sudden burst on a turn over will be the difference between a goal and a defender laughing at you while he pokes the puck to the corner. But again, I usually do not go over 92 in this category since the difference starts to tail off significantly. Besides, a very important attribute needs some notice as well.
That attribute is Agility. Back to the car example, imaging a road course with tons of turns. Which would you choose to win, the car that can acceleration the fastest and has the highest top end speed, or the car that can be quick and agile and not have to slam on the brakes at every turn like the speed demon retard. Agility affects how fast your player can go while turning and making moves. A low agility will cause your player to slow down significantly whenever you turn or make a deke move. This along with a good acceleration attribute can make you the fastest skater on the ice. I normally go as high as 95 with this attribute, but again I usually go with a balance stand of 92 to get the best of all worlds.
Here are a few builds I go with:
Now those number are reached by unlocking the +5 Speed, Acceleration, and Agility, in addition to the +3 Speed and Acceleration boosts. So take some time and work those offline matches before you go to the big leagues in the EASHL.
