Game Reviews
I usually don't take demo's too seriously, mainly because it is an outdated version of the game itself. If you look at the madden demo, the build of the game is prior to E3. However, NHL seems to be largely changed as the skating has been totally altered. Not only that, I find myself not scoring on those "given" plays that have always been there in years past.
Gameplay
One of the first things I noticed was the new skating engine. At first, I felt the game was slow, too slow in fact. But playing it for a while, I actually got use to it and I'd probably rather have this new skating engine. It's much more realistic and positioning means something. Another feature I thought was good, was the defenseman's stick swaying side to side as your holding LT when back skating into your defensive zone. Not only were the D handicapped in that sense last year, the tie-ups in front of the net will help tremendously. Good defenseman are always at a premium in NHL, but I feel there will be some more people playing the blue line in NHL 12.
AudioSurf makes a claim that the game lets you "Ride your music", and fortunately it actually backs it up. An indie game released in 2008, AudioSurf has made a resurgence in the indie market due to being available on Steam at a low price of $9.99. Very simple in concept, it allows you to take your music file and create a custom track designed via an algorithm analyzing your music track. AudioSurf supports these music file formats:
With its emergence on Steam, you can now keep score with your friends in addition to global and regional scoreboards for the individual tracks. With the large selection of characters, each having their own traits, there is even replayabilty for the same music tracks, competing with friends using each of the characters and finding which one is best for you.
Since I took the first snap in NCAA Football 12, I finally have found my resting place with sports video games. NCAA is an all around masterpiece and it deserves high praise from all of it's players. I'm not one for long introductions, so let's get right into it.
The first thing I did was jump right into a Play Now game and use my favorite team and future alma mater, Penn State. One of the first things I noticed was the flow of the game, it plays fluidly and right along to the pace of the user(s). Another feature that was brought to my attention was the new tackling engine. There are no longer any glitchy tackling animations or warping of players on the field. Up to this point, I have not seen the same tackling animation twice in games - pretty impressive.
Take a look of my first game, as I uploaded footage of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy_EP-qG7BE
Ah, where to begin. Killzone 3 in my mind is an absolute masterpiece, I definite must have for any PS3 user. From intense fire-fights in snowy terrain maps, to fighting hordes of Helghast on rooftops, this game has it all. Let's get right into the specifics.
Killzone 3 Review
The presentation of Killzone that has always been great and it continues to be with Killzone 3. The level design both in single-player and multiplayer are second to none and you'll feel like you are actually in battle which is something that Call of Duty or the like can't compare to. All of the multiplayer maps pack their own specific elements which is nice, you can be fighting on a platform and out of nowhere a snowstorm will come in and drastically reduce your visibility, things like that are what makes the maps so great. There aren't any destructible features in the presentation, however in this type of game there doesn't need to be. The maps are on the larger side which makes for long and short range battles, sniping isn't as common in other FPS. Playing in HD makes the experience great, I can only imagine playing it in the coveted 3D.
Fallout: New Vegas as a whole is a great game. Even though it is buggy as hell, the storyline and game-play really push the game to a high level, adding of course that you save every couple of minutes. Best way I can think to put it is that Fallout: New Vegas is like Windows ME but its fun to play. Just save your essay your writing for class every 2 seconds and you should be good. But now this little intro leads me to speak of the DLC for Fallout: New Vegas named Dead Money. Even though I enjoyed the main game immensely, Dead Money to me was a horrible addition that was a huge trial of patience.
NBA 2K11 is the best NBA basketball game available. Well, it has to be since there is no competition at this point in time. NBA Elite 11, EA Sports NBA game release was pushed back because they want to make the best basketball game ever, otherwise known as the "Wow, this game really sucks in comparison to that new 2K Sports release". Now, I really don't know what caused the delay for NBA Elite 11, nor do I really care, because NBA 2K11 is actually a decent enough basketball game and was released on time. Who is going to wait for NBA Elite 11 when there is already a game available that does the job and has Micheal Jordan on the cover? Not many people is the answer to that question. I mean, NBA titles are not exactly Half Life: Episode 3 which people would literally die to get their hands on. I know even plenty of hot gamer chicks(you're just jealous I've been On The internet talking to hot chicks all day) will go out with Gabe Newell just to get it done. But back to the review at hand, NBA 2K11 is a very good basketball game that focuses on the game-play more then the looks of the game.
Presentation
I, like many others, was very anxious for the new title in the Call of Duty series labeled Black Ops. I saw it as a welcome respite away from constant playing of Fallout: New Vegas that has been driving me mad, more so from the point in that I love the game but hate the multitude of errors/glitches that appear throughout its vast greatness. That last sentence now makes me even more confused about how I feel about that game, but now back onto Call of Duty: Black Ops. Black Ops, like any of its older brothers, is a first person shooter with a distinct marketability towards the multi-player segment of both the gaming consoles and the computer market. Again, like Modern Warfare, Black Ops still takes private servers away from the player, which to me handicaps the game as I will speak about later, but I have decided that this game deserves to be taken apart in separate portions, kind of like how you eat a milkshake and a hamburger separate, unless you like the whole meaty milkshake thing, which if you do, good on ya mate.
Here is a video review of Dead Rising 2. Overall its a good game but not for playing for hours and hours without end, but rather for those times when you just want to kill some zombies.
Here is the video review for the game Naughty Bear for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
I decided to pick up a new game recently and wanted to try something like God of War for the Xbox 360. The one recommended to me was Dante's Inferno, which in name already caught my eye. One main reason is I have read the “Divine Comedyâ€, which sees a man named Dante give a first-person viewpoint of hell in one of its chapters. The second reason is that it had inferno in the name, so fire is always good in a video game, why the hell not rent it just to burn things. So upon these three premises, I went in expecting a pretty good gaming experience for Dante's Inferno.
Unfortunately, I think they got more of the comedy aspect of the “Diving Comedy†then anything else in Dante's Inferno. The game is definitely not on par with God of War, actually for me not even in the ballpark. I am not talking about Comerica Park where it has a large outfield, I am talking Yankee Stadium where a 10 year old could probably hit a ball out of the park on a good, windy day. Maybe I had too high of hopes for the game, but for me it doesn't even come close to being good.
